Psychiatry is one of the important medical specialties devoted to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of mental disorders. These may be related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Initial psychiatric assessment of a person typically begins with a case history and mental status examination. Physical examinations and psychological tests may be conducted. On occasion, neuroimaging or other neurophysiological techniques are used.
The Psychiatry Department runs a General Psychiatry OPD 6 days a week and Special Clinics on designated days. It has 27 bedded indoor facility for admission. The Department provides emergency care round the clock, along with consultation liaison with other departments.
Joined as Assistant Professor and Incharge Psychiatry on 18th January 2018. Promoted to Associate Professor and HOD Psychiatry on 18th January 2022. He has been actively involved in teaching MBBS students, Research activities within the department as well as guiding Thesis/Projects of PG students of other medical departments. His research endeavors include winning 2nd Best Research Award during COVID 19 from Government of Haryana. He has successfully organized one day CME in collaboration with SRMH which witnessed at least 200 delegates from Haryana as well as from outside states. The department has recently submitted proposal for start of Drug dependence and treatment and Counselling Centre.
Dr. Vipin Kumar is Associate Professor in the Department. He has already completed BCBR and rBCW in 2020 and 2021 respectively. He is actively involved in Clinical work, teaching undergraduate and Postgraduate students. He has published 20 research articles in various reputed National and International Journals.
She is a regular Psychiatry Social worker in the Department of Psychiatry since 8th July 2019. She is meticulous in her field of work which is mainly related to unattended and destitute Psychiatry patients. With her help, the department has reunited 25 to 30 destitute/unattended patients, with their families or to an appropriate place in last 05 years. She has also rendered her services at BPS Govt Medical College, Khanpur Sonepat.
She is a regular Vocational Counsellor in the Department of Psychiatry since 12th December 2012. During her last 06 to 07 years, she has been regularly involved in counselling of Anxiety and Depressive patients. However, her main forte is counselling of Dissociative and Conversion disorder patients. Undergraduate students usually seek her advice during stressful times and are benefitted.
