Department of Paediatrics

Pediatrics Department in SHKM GMC occupies a unique position with regard to the highly technical and specialized nature of the health care delivery for complex medical disorders both in terms of quality and quantity for neonate, infants & children.

We offer health care services ,medical education and research programs that address critical issues in children’s health. Our Paediatric department is equipped to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care to children. From diagnostic tools to therapeutic devices, we ensure that our young patients receive the best possible treatment in a child- friendly environment.

Services

    Daily OPD (9 am-4 pm )

    Indoor services comprising of two general wards with 60 beds capacity.

    24 hours emergency services with 9 beds capacity including labour room deliveries and caesarean sections.

    Level III NICU ( 7 bedded ) is well equipped with specialized medical equipment and resources to provide critical care for newborns, including extreme preterm & ill infants.

    Typical equipment and features in a NICU include:-
    1. Ventilators Drager 2020 make with High - Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation(HFO)
    2. Non invasive ventilation facilities-Humidified High Flow Nasal Cannula ( HHFNC)and CPAP Machines for intensive monitoring
    3. Multipara monitors
    4. Radiant warmers
    5. Surfactant Therapy
    6. Central line and peripheral line catheters & TPN facility
    7. Umbilical catheters
    8. Blood gas Analysis machine
    9. Double Volume Exchange Transfusion facility
    10. Infusion pumps
    11. Oxygen delivery devices including nasal cannulas, oxygen hood
    12. Phototherapy units, ( LED) & Transcutaneous bilirubinometer
    13. Transport incubator
    14. KMC chair

    PICU (10 bedded) is well equipped to provide comprehensive care for critically ill children. These includes.

    1. Ventilators- High frequency and conventional ventilators
    2. Non invasive ventilation facilities -HHFNC & CPAP
    3. Advanced monitoring system through multiple monitors
    4. Defibrillator
    5. Central line and peripheral line catheters
    6. Infusion pumps
    7. Specialized beds for chronic patients
    8. Isolation facilities:- for managing infectious patients.

    Mother and Neonatal Care Unit ( MNCU) – (6 bedded) is designed to provide comprehensive care for mother and their newborns together especially for premature baby for their growth and term baby for antibiotics completion. It was established recently in year 2021 with support from NHM Department.

  1. MBBS courses (120 students admission per year) are running since 2013.
  2. DNB (Primary, Secondary & Diploma ) PG course running since 2020.
